My body has been in healing mode for 2.6 years now. I gave birth to twins in 2020. And I have been slowly starting to feel strong again almost two and a half years later. Having to take so much time to heal was really hard for me. I’m used to being quite active and fit. I used to use the label “obstacle course racer” to describe myself. And it’s been very frustrating to not feel strong, healthy, or “fit” for a while now.
I’ve been actively bringing back exercise into my routine as I heal. And I’m starting to feel stronger again.
Why am I rebuilding my strength?
While I’m not making any excuses I am giving my body the grace I needed to take my time healing. After giving birth to the twins vaginally I hemorrhaged and was in the hospital for 2 weeks. After that, I was potentially dealing with an AVM (that’s a long story) so I had to rest and recover. Following that, due to a forceps delivery, I developed a pelvic floor prolapse which to be honest has been the hardest thing to work out with. It’s just not fun to live with!
And to top that all off I was quite sedentary for several months after giving birth. I ended up putting on quite a bit of weight (for my body). And I’m finally starting to shed it. In September 2022, dōTERRA launched their MetaPWR system of products which focuses on metabolic health and in October of 2022, I purchased my friend Danielle Pascente’s Strong in Fall Challenge. The challenge was a 6-week progressive workout program. Unfortunately, I got to week 4 and our house was hit with sickness, and then the holidays. In January I then had to deal with an impinged supra/infra in my left shoulder. And then in February, I FINALLY FELT BETTER. I finished the program while on vacation in the Dominican Republic at the beginning of March. So I thought why not. Let’s add an additional challenge of 10 daily pull-ups to this month while getting back into a workout routine.
While I’m in no shape to knock these out without any support. I will be using progressions to build up to unsupported ones.
How it’s going so far…
My husband and I just got back from a trip to the Dominican at the beginning of the month. There was a great gym on site so with him holding my feet I was able to knock out 10 each day. I took one day off and then forgot one day so I made up with 30 on another day. Now that we’re back at home, we have a pull-up bar in our garage and I have a band so I can do banded ones. I’ll add in some negatives for progressions and hopefully work up to unsupported ones by the end of the month.
Wish me luck!
